Superior electrical insulation, heat resistance and dielectric properties make BMC (Bulk Molding Compound), SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) and CIC (Continuous Impregnated Compound) an excellent choice for insulating switch components, circuit breakers, deadlock isolators and motor brush holders.

Typical applications include:

  • electrical connectors, covers, circuit breaker boxes and contact blocks

  • motor mounts, brush boards, brush holders, and starter housings

  • electrical equipment

  • electrical insulating parts

  • electrical junction boxes

Thermoset composite materials exhibit excellent dielectric strength, through a network of cross-linked molecules that create a rigid structure, where the molecules are held in place by chemical bonds.

Composites made from thermosets, therefore, have the ability to maintain both physical and electrical properties under mechanical loads, when exposed to high temperatures.

Often, parts molded from plastics will burn or melt during exposure to an electrical arc or tracing.

However, thermoset composite materials demonstrate minimal effects in these situations, have CTI (Comparative Tracking Index) values greater than 600 volts and dielectric strength greater than 15 kv/mm.

These properties, combined with excellent thermal properties, make BMC, SMC and CIC materials an ideal choice for protecting sensitive electrical output devices, operating in high temperature environments.
